Why English Is The Hardest Language

If you’ve learned to speak fluent English, you must be a genius!

Reasons why the English language is so hard to learn:
===================================
1) The bandage was wound around the wound.
2) The farm was used to produce produce.
3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
4) We must polish the Polish furniture.
5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.. 8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum
9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10) I did not object to the object.
11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
13) They were too close to the door to close it.
14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.
15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail
18) After a number of injections my jaw got number.
19) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
20) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests
21) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France (Surprise!). Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat.

Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce and hammers don’t ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? Doesn’t it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? Is it an odd, or an end?

If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

P.S. - Why doesn’t “Buick” rhyme with “quick”?

Bad Behavior All Around

It never ceases to amaze me how much spam and garbage can hit your site. I have to give another shout out to Bad Behavior because since installing it on this site again, it has blocked more bots than I have had traffic! It keeps the amount that Akismet gets hits with down as well. Akismet is still doing it’s job and blocking all the spam comments, but Bad Behavior is saving me on both bandwidth, headaches and server load. I love things that stop this bad behavior!

Things are getting back in order now that I have put all my domains back on my hosting account. Wordpress.com is a great service and I would invite anyone looking for a free blog to check them out. It is the best blog service that I have ever used and highly recommend it. The quality of service and features is second to none in my opinion. I had to make another personal choice and felt that having my own host again was the best option for me. I play around and change things too much. I like some features that were not allowed and generally just like my freedom.

I haven’t done much with it, but Trent Pressed is still on wordpress.com and will be my voice for wordpress and bbPress issues. It has to take a backburner for a little while until I can get the rest of my sites up and running the way I want, but will become something that I hope to post on often.

I was excited when I found out that Bluehost.com is now offering more space, more bandwidth and unlimited domains. This was the deciding factor to move back to my own host because when I started this account with them, all my domains wouldn’t fit. Now they do and I can add more as I please!

Work has been really busy lately and we have so many things on the go, so my posting and online life has been a little slow lately. I am doing what I can in the bbPress.org and wordpress.com forums, but that has even taken a bit of a backburner position. Business and family first. Everything else just gets what I have left! :) See ya soon!

Finally Have My Domains Back

It took forever to get the .ca domains to provogate across the internet, but all of my domains are back on my server again. I am still running a couple of blogs on wordpress.com, but for some of my blogs I was getting close to violating the TOS and that would be bad, so I moved them. Others were moved to allow me more access to opportunities and this domain to interact back with my bbPress forum at http://onvertigo.com

All and all it was a painful day of working and fitting these issues in while I can. What do I have to look forward to this week? More work!

.com versus .ca domain changes

It never ceases to amaze me that I can change the name servers on my .com domains and they will be accessible in a matter of seconds. When it comes to my .ca domains, it seems that they might be accessible within 12 hours. It drives me insane and I really don’t understand why? I do a search and the new name servers show up, but it provogates so much slower!

Any thoughts anyone?

Motivation Is Everything

Mark had a great post about motivation and had some great insights on working for yourself. I agree with him completely and even commented as follows:

You hit the nail right on the head. Successful people (not just monetary either) are people who are self-motivated. You will never be wealthy unless you are willing to put in the extra effort to make things happen and get things done. You will never save that endangered species unless you are willing to go up and above to make sure you have everything organized. The examples are endless, but motivation is a fire that is born within and only comes out when you enjoy something, love something or truely have passion. Without passion, most people quit when times get tough. Passionate people work through the tough times. Motivation is everything! My 2 cents.

Winners never quit and that is why quitters never win. That is passion and motivation.

Next Of Kin

Just like writing a will, no one wants to have to visit their own mortality, but everyone must. It is really important that we write a will and have on paper what we want the world to know is our final wishes. It makes both property and personal issues go by easy. I even found a plugin for Wordpress called Next of Kin that does my “electronic will”. It is a scary plugin, but might work for others! Check it out! Thanks to Micheal for the link!
